Clik here to view.David Akers tied the NFL record for field-goal distance. Now with the San Francisco 49ers, he kicked a 63-yarder that hit the crossbar, then bounced through the uprights as time expired in the first half of the San Francisco 49ers' game with the Green Bay Packers.
Akers' previous longest field goal was 57 yards in 2003. With this kick, he joins Tom Dempsey, who made the kick in 1970 with a controversial, modified shoe, and Sebastian Janikowski and Jason Elam, who both made their kicks at Mile High Stadium.
Akers made his kick at Lambeau Field, which has neither the elevation nor the thin air of Denver. (It does, however, have the best cheese selection in the league.)
