South Korea beat Japan 2-0 in the men's soccer bronze-medal match on Friday, so that just leaves Brazil and Mexico to play for gold. Though Brazil has twice won silver (1984, 1988) and twice won bronze (1996 2008), it has never won gold in Olympic soccer. Mexico, meanwhile, has never even medaled in the sport. We'll be hosting a live chat below during the match as Brazil tries to correct one of the anomalies of international football and Mexico does its best to make sure Brazil's Olympic curse continues.
Mexico finished the group stage with two wins and a draw before beating Senegal in the quarterfinals and Japan in the semis. On the other side of the bracket, Brazil maintains a perfect record after coming back from a 2-0 deficit to beat Honduras in the quarters and making easy work of South Korea in the semis.
Though the final pits the tournament's two highest-scoring teams against each other, Mexico will be without injured leading scorer Gio Dos Santos. Brazil, meanwhile, brings the tournament's leading scorer Leandro Damiao (six goals) and 20-year-old budding superstar Neymar (three goals).
