Former five-star Oregon recruit Jabari Brown made his debut with the Missouri Tigers in a 102-51 win over South Carolina State.
Brown had to sit out the first semester to satisfy NCAA transfer rules after leaving Oregon last winter. His first action with the Tigers was highly anticipated and helped attract a crowd of more than 10,000 to a predictable blowout.
It's too early to say whether the Tigers now have back much of what they lost when Michael Dixon left the program. Brown and Dixon have different styles and abilities but they both are perimeter scorers who can make it tough on opponents on the defensive end.
Brown certainly doesn't have Dixon's experience. But coach Frank Haith does have another very talented weapon at his disposal who will only make the 12th ranked Tigers a stronger contender later in the season.
Brown scored 12 points with three assists on a night when his jumper wasn't on target. He made only one of seven 3-point attempts. Still, the point total in his first Missouri game matches his combined output in the only two games he played for the Ducks before deciding to leave that program last year.
"He played great," Haith said. "He was 1-for 7 from three, but that doesn't concern me because I know that he's going to make threes. What Jabari brings is basketball IQ, moves well without the ball. He passes the ball. He's patient offensively, and I think that's needed with this team."
