Following through on a pledge he made earlier this season, longtime Reds broadcaster Marty Brennaman says he'll have his head shaved now that the team has run its winning streak to 10 games.
That's right. Ol' Franchester is staying true to his word and going Uncle Fester after the Reds streak entered double digits with Sunday's 7-2 win over Colorado.
"And this one belongs to the Reds! Cincinnati has won 10 in a row and I'm gonna shave my head absolutely bald," Brennaman exclaimed after Sunday's win.
"That's a good thing," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "He's proud of his hair."
Brennaman says he won't buzz his bouffant until Friday because he has some commercials to tape on Monday. That makes it seem like Brennaman is missing the point, but you have to credit any man past a certain age who voluntarily waves goodbye to all of his hair.
As for the Reds, there isn't a hotter team in baseball right now. Yes, their streak has been built on the back of three-game sweeps of the out-of-contention Brewers, Astros and Rockies. They also own the good fortune of having a four-game series with the San Diego Padres waiting for them when they arrive home on Monday, which could help them equal or pass the franchise record of 12 straight victories.
But good teams are supposed to beat those squads and Cincinnati now owns a three-game lead over Pittsburgh — who visits Great American Ballpark next weekend — in the NL Central.
