Contrary to popular belief, Notre Dame coach Mike Brey's wardrobe doesn't only consist of dark blazers and mock turtlenecks.

Occasionally he'll also don an old basketball jersey from his playing days.

Brey did his press conference after Notre Dame's 65-48 win over George Washington on Wednesday night clad in a blue and gold No. 15 George Washington jersey with no white T-shirt or undershirt underneath. The Notre Dame coach wore that jersey as a senior during the 1981-82 season when he averaged 5.0 points and 4.8 rebounds in his lone year with the Colonials.

Even though it had to be tough for reporters to ask Brey questions with a straight face with him wearing his college jersey, none of them should have been surprised to see him in George Washington colors. Brey has long supported the Colonials program and has many connections to the school.

In addition to his one season in Foggy Bottom after transferring from Northwestern Louisiana, Brey is married to former George Washington women's volleyball player Tish Schlapo. His mother Betty coached swimming for the Colonials, and his father Paul earned a master's degree at George Washington.

Brey and George Washington coach Mike Lonergan are close friends who both grew up in the Washington D.C. area. The matchup they set up between the Colonials and Fighting Irish on Wednesday night was the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
