Midnight Madness produces some memorable moments each year, so The Dagger is chronicling the best ones from Friday's lineup all weekend. If you spot something we missed, let us know here or here.
Before Michigan State's Midnight Madness, athletic director Mark Hollis tweeted that "Breslin Center on Friday night may be the site of [Tom] Izzo's most dangerous entrance ever." Sure enough, as part of a comic story, a man dressed as the action hero "Iron Man" zoomed down a zip line to save Sparty from the "Legion of Doom" that included Big Ten coaches John Beilein, Thad Matta and Bo Ryan. Thankfully, it was a stuntman who took the plunge from the Breslin Center rafters. Moments later, Izzo emerged clad in an identical Iron Man suit to tell fans he hoped this was the year the Spartans end their three-year Final Four drought. Izzo has a reputation for embracing Midnight Madness silliness more than most coaches. He comes in costume every year, from his entrance on horseback in 2003, to his 300-style Spartan warrior get-up in 2007 to his hippie costume in 2008.
