Police in Dearborn, Mich., are investigating a two-car accident on Thursday morning that involved Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.
According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Sgt. Ed Fries of the Dearborn Police says that Suh was involved in a "minor, minor fender bender" that involved no injuries or alcohol. The other driver, 43-year-old Stephen Vines, says Suh side-swiped his 1999 Ford Escort at 6:20 a.m. on the Southfield Freeway, but did not stop.
Vines followed Suh to the team's Allen Park, Mich., headquarters.
"What it comes down to is it was an arrogance thing in my eyes," Vines said. "It was just pure arrogance. 'Get out of my way or I'm going to make you move.' And then, 'I'm too good to sit here and wait. I'm going to leave, you guys can come find me.'"
Birkett notes that this is the fourth traffic-related incident involving Suh since he was selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2010 NFL draft. The most serious of those incidents occurred in Portland, Ore., last December. While serving a two-game suspension for stomping on Green Bay Packers guard Evan Dietrich-Smith on Thanksgiving, Suh was driving his 1970 Chevy Coupe when he struck a tree, among other objects. In that accident, Suh told police that he was alone in the vehicle, but two individuals came forward to say that they were passengers in the vehicle and the 2010 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year is being sued for $1 million.
Vines, who is a Lions fan, says he doesn't want Suh's money, he just wants an apology and his car fixed.
"It doesn't change my perception of the Lions at all. I pray that we beat Philly in Philly (on Sunday)," Vines said. "But my view of Suh, I know he's going through some tough times with court and everything right now, but this doesn't help. I don't care if he said, 'Look, I'm gonna be late for practice and they're going to fine me $5,000. I didn't mean to hit you. I was just trying to get around you. Let me take care of your car.' No one would have ever heard of it."
On Friday morning, Suh referenced the fender bender in a lengthy hash tag at the end of a tweet.
